Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra presents free spring concerts

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擳he Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra will present concerts March 23 and April 13 on 花秀直播 State鈥檚 campus.
鈥淪ea Symphony鈥 featuring the Starkville Symphony Chorus takes place March 23, 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall鈥檚 Bettersworth Auditorium. The annual choral masterworks program will highlight the famous Brahms鈥 鈥淎cademic Festival鈥 Overture and the 2024 MSU Student Solo Competition winner Markel Copprue, who will perform the Glazanov Saxophone Concerto. The concert will continue with a performance of Vaughan Williams鈥 鈥淪ymphony No. 1, A Sea Symphony,鈥 a majestic, sweeping composition that carries the listener on a journey set to Walt Whitman鈥檚 鈥淟eaves of Grass鈥 with a 120-voice choir and professional soloists Roza Tulyaganova and Christopher Withrow.
On April 13, the orchestra will perform 鈥淲ingo Pops Presents Cinema Paradiso,鈥 at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall鈥檚 Bettersworth Auditorium. Attendees are invited to travel back to movie classics of the silver screen with 鈥50s, 鈥60s, 鈥70s and 鈥80s soundtrack hits, such as Mancini鈥檚 鈥淢oon River,鈥 Bernstein鈥檚 鈥淭he Magnificent Seven,鈥 Morricone鈥檚 鈥淐inema Paradiso,鈥 and Rota鈥檚 鈥淎 Time for Us鈥 from the 1968 version of 鈥淩omeo and Juliet.鈥
The orchestra is directed by Daniel Stevens, MSU music department head. Admission to both events is free and open to the public.
